Hand-Fasting the Cowichan Valley
one Ceremony at a time’

Hand-Fasting or ‘fastening’ is a simple ceremony of loving commitment between consenting adults. Vows are spoken, then coloured cords
are bound around each other’s hands, wrist-point to wrist-point,
in the presence of witnesses.
Hence the term: ‘tying the knot’.
One of the most beautiful aspects of Hand-Fasting
is  that it ‘lasts as long as love shall last’.
There is no ‘til death do us part’ in a Hand-Fasting.
At the end of the Ceremony, depending on the Season, the parties either ‘jump the broom’ or ‘jump the fire’ to the joyous encouragement of their guests.

Why do a Hand-Fasting?
In this day and age of expensive and somewhat ‘cookie cutter’ marriage ceremonies,
many folk are looking to make this Life Event
more meaningful  and unique to their needs.
Within the Hand-Fasting framework there is plenty of room
to add your own individual touches.

Who will preside?
I would be delighted to do so and will bring to your Hand-Fasting, my
background of ancient Irish Druidic teachings and be honoured
to  act as your Celebrant / Presider.

Where shall we hold the Ceremony?
Depending on the weather,
in as natural a setting as possible.
A grove would be ideal.

When?
Any time of the year, though the first day of May (Bealtainne) is traditional
